What are the
contents of the historical consciousness that human beings growing up in the
Western world have today? How is our historical consciousness affected by
the fact that what we have been taught at school, through media, e.g. as being
historical realities, are actually only the story of the victors, and thereby
only portraying one side of an immensely larger picture?
I wonder how the fact that we only
know one part of our historical reality affects us on the both the conscious,
and the unconscious plane. All the stories that reside deep within the
collective unconscious, which have never before been granted a voice, must as I
see it be trying to be brought forth, in order to add their unique contribution
to the tapestry of history. History is never complete until the voices of minority
have been heard and successfully integrated. I think we are in desperate need
of a more complete history, a history that will guide us into creating a better
future. A history that depicts all parts of the complex picture that makes up a
historical event will help us to steer away from repeating the same “mistakes”
as our ancestors might have made and build a future that has room for all
beings.
